Firefly Music Festival; Dover
Firefly Music Festival is a large-scale, well-known, popular music festival that started back in 2012. It takes place at the Dover International Speedway over four days. It includes camping for attendees and features artists on numerous main stages as well as a few smaller ones. Headliners in recent years have included artists like Panic! at the Disco, Post Malone, The Weeknd, Twenty One Pilots, Eminem, Kendrick Lamar, The Killers, Bob Dylan, to name a few.
Opera Delaware Festival; Wilmington
Opera Delaware is one of the oldest professional opera companies in the United States, and every May they hold a festival in Wilmington that gives attendees the opportunity to see two full opera productions over a single weekend. This may not seem like a big deal for some, but this is something that is very uncommon in the world of opera, and people flock to this event every year.
Clifford Brown Jazz Festival; Wilmington
The Clifford Brown Jazz Festival offers four days of music on two stages in Wilmington’s Rodney Square. It started in 1989. Over eighty artists perform each year in tribute to the late, local Clifford Brown who is generally considered to be one of the greatest jazz trumpeters of all time. Best of all? It’s free!
Ladybug Music Festival; Wilmington/Milford
The largest celebration of women in music is Delaware’s Ladybug Music Festival. It was founded in 2012 to offer an alternative to the Firefly Festival with a focus on independent artists. Today, it takes place in two different locations in two different months; it’s in Wilmington in July and in Milford in September, with each event showcasing the talents of over forty female performers.
Rehoboth Beach Jazz Festival; Rehoboth Beach
The Delaware Celebration of Jazz organization presents the Rehoboth Beach Jazz Festival for a week every October. They’ve trademarked the tagline “the greatest jazz festival in the world” and many attendees find that title quite fitting. National and international acts perform here, as well as lesser-known, local jazz artists.
