South By Southwest
Prepare for non-stop action from the minute you arrive at SXSW. This massive expo includes tech, film, and music programming events as well as seven days of live performances from emerging acts as well as some old faves.
It’s taking over the town this March in Austin, Texas with live shows in clubs and pubs across the city and loads of free stuff up for grabs.
The event’s so huge, many of the locals flee at this time of year to preserve their sanity. There’s never been a bigger playground for festival-loving folk than SFXW and, likely, there never will be.
Austin City Limits
Another Austin giant, this huge conglomeration of hip-hop, rock, pop, and EDM stars takes place in Ziler park for two weekends every fall.
There’s plenty to eat (and drink) on-site as well as lots of retail therapy from funky art and clothing vendors. City ordinances mean the event itself closes early, but the party carries on late into the night all over Austin’s bars and clubs.
You can look forward to over 100 artists performing on 8 stages across the park. Gun’s N’Roses, The Cure, Mumford & Sons, and Tame Impala have all shown their faces here over the years.
Austin City Limits is a rare family-friendly event with a separate kiddies area to ensure good times for all.
Levitation Music Festival
This gathering allows you to get high on good times with soul-surging psych beats from the best in the biz.
The event started as an independent garage rock festival, and it’s grown to its current dimensions by word-of-mouth alone. So, you know it’s got to be good.
During 2019, Levitation brought a big heavy metal contingent to the party too, with appearances by Power Trip and Deafheaven to name a few. It’s all about the weirdness at Levitation, so bring your A-game and practice your head-banging before you arrive.
JMBLYA
Hip-hop heads, here’s one for you. JMBLYA takes place in Dallas and Austin where the hippiest hoppiest rap, R&B, and trap artists congregate in May every year.
JMBLYA’s a unique high-energy blend of underground music, dancing, and fun and it’s on for one day only at each venue.
The next event takes place during the fall, you’ve got plenty of time to get your tickets, assemble your outfits, and start planning your trip.
UTOPiAfest
UTOPiAfest‘s a laid-back family affair with free camping and small crowds. So, you can get up close and personal with all the acts ranging from indie to electronic rock, with a pinch of old school soul and hip-hop.
Apart from music, hiking, biking, and yoga are the main events at this laid-back festival that takes place in the countryside at Reveille Peak Ranch outside Austin.
It’s all about family at this festival which observes silent hours after dark, encourages campfire cooking, and dishes out free passes to children and teenagers. If you’ve never been to a music festival before, this is a good place to learn the ropes.
Old Settler’s Music Festival
Old Settler’s Music Festival was first held in 1987 at Old Settler’s Park in Round Rock, Texas and moved to Stone Mountain Events Center in Dripping Springs, Texas.
Widely recognized for its contribution to Central Texas culture; with over 30 bands performing for 16,000 roots-music fans each year.
Among the major events it is considered that helps the region sustain the status as the “live music capital of the world.”
Old Settler’s Music Festival, held over four days during the third weekend in April, attracted around 17,000 visitors from all over the world in the 2010s. The musical lineup has diversified considerably and includes bluegrass, Americana, swing, blues, country, jazz, and other genres.
Fortress Festival
