Festy Wear, What do I pack?

If you are attending a festival this season for the first time, you may be wondering what to pack in the way of clothes. This question is asked of me often but since there are no right or wrong answers, I will provide you with a few tips to guide you along.

The clothing you choose to wear at a festival is entirely up to you, just remember that you will certainly be dancing, sleeping, eating, and whatever else in these clothes so it is a good idea to bring things you do not mind getting dirty. Most likely you will find yourself at some point chilling on the ground or even dancing in a mud puddle so bringing nice clothes is just a waste.

Packing light can make your life a little easier so while planning your clothes try to think it through a bit. For example, bring things that have multiple purposes like light jackets that you can tie around your waste and use as a cushion on the hard ground during the day the put on over your chilly sunburn at night. Bandannas can be used as headbands, carrying devices for your small stuff, a mask when walking through dusty roads, a napkin when you can’t find one, etc. Try to plan your outfits instead of just packing a bunch of random stuff like some of us like to do. Take a little time to coordinate, like packing clothes that all go well together so that you don’t have to spend too much time worrying about matching or looking good.

Even if you don’t think you will need it always pack a few heavy coats and other warm items like socks, close-toed shoes, skull caps, and under armor because nothing sucks quite as bad as trying to hang out or sleep all weekend in a super cold campground with no warm salvation. Layers are your best friend!

Some people like to go all out and wear cute little dresses or even crazy costumes complete with fairy wings and glitter. Again there are no rules so pack what you feel comfortable in. Personally, I usually spend festival weekends in sweatpants and t-shirts, throwing in some cute dresses and hot tanks every once in a while. I like to be free to dance and move around comfortably all weekend without many wardrobe changes, choosing clothes that can easily convert depending on the weather and my level of waste. Again, layers!

Girls, this is for you. If you are self-conscious without your makeup then feel free to pack it but just remember that with that comes having to spend time applying and removing it throughout the weekend. This is time that could be better spent in my opinion, so I don’t bother packing it at all. Also, remember that it may get very hot and some of your makeup may not make it through the heat. A good compromise is bringing skin evening lotion with sunscreen included, some shiny lip gloss, and maybe mascara.

If any place exists in this world that anything goes, it’s a festival. Feel free to do what you do in your own style. Let your freak flags fly and have a good show!
